In years past, we have been able to buy a four-gallon plastic jug of drinking water with a spigot that hangs over the edge of the counter or fridge shelf. This is very handy for us for the summer. But we have not been able to find anything like it for the last two summers. Just one-gallon jugs that are clumsy for kids and elders to lift and pour.

Has anyone seen a four- or five- or even two- or three-gallon jug w spigot at any store? My regular travel circuit takes me through Evanston, Skokie, Morton Grove, Glenview, Niles and beyond. But I would travel to buy this elusive thing. Thanks very much for any info! --Joy

I got one at an Ultra Foods just a few days ago. I'm not sure of all their locations but this one was in Crestwood.....

I've gotten jugs with spigots that were definitely more than a gallon at Mariano's - I think they were either 2.5 or 3 gallons.

    Thanks for the ideas, guys!

I should have been clearer in my original post. I am looking for a water jug with the water in it! The jug is brought to where there is no potable water -- think a primitive cabin, a boat, a picnic out in the middle of nowhere.

I am kicking myself that somehow the jug we used years ago was... what? Sent to recycling? If I remember correctly, that is probably what happened because there was no top opening to refill and you could not unscrew the spigot. The jug with water in it cost probably around $4 or so.

Those jugs from Amazon are gorgeous but out of the budget. Maybe I need to break down and buy one and it will last forever.

I will post what I come up with for a solution. Thanks very much!

I'm sure I've seen the water-filled jugs with spigot at various stores, but haven't looked lately. Have you asked about them at any of the stores you frequent?

The new Heinan's in Glenview has large containers of water with spigots. They are on the very bottom shelf near the end of the aisle.

Thanks for this. I'm LMAO at my desk now thinking of Neil Young's recent show here where, during a break, he recounted his first experience of people actually selling water. BTW, "water" was one of his "sponsors" as was glass - brought to you by Fire and Sand!

The one got at Ultra was the one that comes full of water and is not refillable, it's 2.5 gallons.
I think it's Ice Mountain brand...
