    All -

Friend is having a wood fired oven built and I wanted to get him some peels as a birthday gift. Anyone on here know a place in Chicagoland where I could pick some up?

Been looking online but would like to see if I can buy locally.

    Thanks!

I got one as a wedding gift from crate and barrel. I'm sure it can be found cheaper somewhere, but it's a start

I recently bought one at Bed, Bath & Beyond. It is a nice wood peel with a relatively short handle designed to use in home ovens. If he needs something with a longer handle or a big commercial oven, I'd suggest going to a restaurant supply store.

Restaurant supply stores should have them.
    I bought mine at Herzog.

Krasny & Co restaurant supply had a whole bunch of peels, but they were big, professional-quality ones. They were really cool, but all 2-3 feet long.

I've bought a few at Northwest Cutlery.
Wood ones, not very long, suited to a kitchen oven.

Williams Sonoma has a couple of different sizes and styles, with different kinds of handles.

If you've got a friend in the restaurant business who can get you in, Restaurant Depot surely has professional quality peels at a reasonable price.

Just bumping this to confirm, Krasny is, oddly enough, your pizza peel HQ. Big selection of high quality pro peels, both stainless with wooden handles and all wood, all cheaper than I've seen elsewhere. Went in to replace some barware and stumbled into the pizza section, having forgotten this thread. Thanks for the tip.

I really like the 59'' Perforated Banjo Peel http://shop.fgpizza.com/page49.html. It makes turning and maneuvering pizzas much easier than a traditional peel. I have bought several items from FG Pizza and have had a great experience every time.

All I can say is, get a wooden peel instead of a metal one. I used to build my pizzas on my wood cutting board and then shake it off onto the hot pizza pan in the oven. It worked pretty well. After I got my metal pizza peel, I had way more trouble with sticking and getting the launch right. I had to use twice as much cormeal/flour to unstick the dough, which would fall onto the oven floor and smoke like crazy. The metal peel is now gathering dust in the corner and I've gone back to the cutting board method. Steel peels are junk!
