I did a search for this and came up with nothing, so I'm hoping this is news -- possibly welcome news.

Remember that episode of MASH where Hawkeye gets ribs from Chicago shipped to Korea? Well, apparently, now anyone can do something along these lines.

I just saw an ad for Foody Direct, a service where you can order the most famous version of anything and have it shipped overnight. You can choose by restaurant, state, marketplace, or food form.

I have no idea what the service is like or what it costs, but this simply struck me as an idea that someone here would value.

    https://www.foodydirect.com/

Scan down the first page of their site just to get an idea of the variety.

If you never crave anything from anywhere else, this may not be of interest, but if you have fond memories of somewhere else, this might help.

I have done this several times with different restaurants and always been disappointed.

Using this service? Or going directly through the restaurants?

Directly with restaurants. I've never used this service.

Edit: Maybe I'm wrong, but using this service is no different than ordering directly from the restaurant. My understanding is that this is service is simply a compilation of restaurants that offer to ship food.

This sounds similar to Tastes of Chicago http://www.tastesofchicago.com, except casting a wider net geographically.

I get the feeling from their site that this is not the case. For example, they have a BBQ package that combines foods from four different locations. Of course, they could just have four places ship, but it sounds as though they handle the task.

I've got a few outstanding invoices -- maybe when I get paid I'll see if there's something I can't live without, to find out more about the service. I just hoped it would be useful to others.

I couldn't imagine how it could be any other way than simply ordering from the restaurants and the FoodyDirect TOS makes clear that is the case:

    Description of Service

FoodyDirect is an e-commerce platform where customers can order food which is prepared and shipped from some of the top restaurants and artisan food makers from across the United States. In essence, FoodyDirect processes each order, and the individual restaurants or food makers fulfill and ship the orders directly to you. So you can be happy, full, and taste the best of what the world has to offer right from the comfort of your own home.

EACH RESTAURANT OR ARTISAN PRODUCER WILL HAVE DIFFERENT SHIPPING AND PACKAGING PROCEDURES AND GUIDELINES AND THEREFORE IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU REVIEW THE SPECIFIC PRODUCT’S SHIPPING AND PACKAGING METHOD AS WELL AS OUR GENERAL SHIPPING AND PACKAGING INFORMATION. BY USING THE SERVICE TO ORDER A PRODUCT, YOU UNDERSTAND AND AGREE TO THE SPECIFIC SHIPPING INFORMATION PROVIDED BY EACH RESTAURANT OR ARTISAN PRODUCER.

By using our Service, you understand and acknowledge that we are not directly responsible for (i) any required licenses, permits, inspections, and insurance required by local, state, and federal laws and regulations for the preparation, handling, shipping and inter-state sale of the food products; and (ii) any local, state, federal and United States Department of Agriculture (“USDA”) and Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) guidelines and regulations for the preparation, handling, labeling, shipping and sale of the food products.

Interesting -- because the site also shows things packed into boxes labeled Foody Direct, and describes the expected life span of things packed in "our containers," which sounded to me like they handled the shipping. Maybe the individual restaurants just get the packing materials from the company.

It appears, since their website has a "basket" for your orders, that the customer doesn't order directly from the restaurant. One orders from Foody Direct, and then they must place the order.

So "semi-direct" ordering from the restaurant. They must be a transaction broker -- you can order and pay for lots of different things from one site in one order, and then they forward to the various, multiple vendors.

Still think that's kind of interesting and potentially useful, if there are things one wants to try from the various people they represent.
