That's $2.69 per pound, right?
If you want somewhat-local tough ducks that haven't been frozen—heck,
not even refrigerated—the live poultry places should be able to accommodate (sometimes requiring advance notice). You might have to pay a premium for the oldsters though. Certainly that's the case at John's Live Poultry on Fullerton. It's the duck version of the hard chicken paradox (see
Hard Chickens in a Chicago Landmark, something I posted here almost a decade ago).
