Does anyone know a place that you can still buy those panoramic sugar Easter eggs? A little scene inside an egg made of white sugar, and decorated with piped colored frosting. Always wanted one of those as a kid and never got one. :-) But now I want to share them with my kids. I see places you can order online, but thought Chicago might have a bakery or sweet shop with some in stock.

    Thanks!

I had never heard of Panoramic Sugar Eggs. Fascinating.

Oh I loved mine when I got them - I think 3 times when I was a kid ... so special and magical.

We always had ones where you looked into the egg from the end so the scene was hidden away and very tiny. I assumed it was a German tradition since my German grandmother was the person who gave them to me.

Nice memories! but nowadays I'd be happier with one of the wonderful coconut cream eggs we would get each year - the ones I find in stores these days don't have the taste I remember!

I found them locally (Chicago) a few years back (3?, 5?) but I can't remember where. Check Margie's and the like?

Thanks all. I can't Google anything up in terms of where to buy, but I'll bet it is something I'll just stumble across. If not, I'll just try to remember earlier next year and order online! Not sure I have the patience to do them myself, especially with the inside scene. Definitely not my strength.

It turns out that these were available at Cost Plus World Market. Two different sizes too. Not very exotic, but went the day after Easter and picked up two small ones at 50% off. Just wanted my kids to see them. :-)

I used to get these as a kid, and always felt ripped off - Not Chocolate?????

Of course, if I could see the grandmother who got them for me now, I would love to thank her for those wonderful things.
