    Hi all-
A co-worker is having a birthday and 20-year anniversary and we'd like to get her a gluten-free chocolate cake. We're looking at a low budget, roughly $20. I'm guessing pre-packed would be the way to go. Any idears of some good ones? No far-out 'burbs, I work on the south side.

    Thanks all!

I have no personal recommendations, but these threads might help

(If you have the time, I would bake one - I did gluten free muffins and they came out amazingly well. I used Bob's Red Mill Gluten Free Pizza mix for the flour, and did everything else just like I would have with regular flour)

Depending on how hardcore you need to be about the gluten-free, is flourless chocolate cake an option?

    Sure, that would work.

I haven't had it in ages, but I used to like the one at Swedish Bakery.

    Hi,

My sister was in a similar situation of needing a gf cake. I suggested a cheesecake or go to the store for a GF-cake mix. While Leek's idea is a good one, which I will tell her for the future. My reasoning for buying a cake mix, it will have the formula figured out and any odd one-time-purchase ingredients are already included.

I saw a crafting the joke where someone could have bought the finished item for $8, but spent $93 on materials to make it themselves. Some GF-baking recipes seem to fall into that category, especially if you are doing a one-of instead of one-of-many.

If you are making a cake make a flourless chocolate cake with almond flour. You can buy bobs red mill or whole foods has it I think in bulk. Sue F made a chocolate cake with teff flour. Options are out there.
