As far as I know, they seem to be the only source for gyro meat in this neck of the woods, so it's a great relief that they were established.

    Hi,

Sometimes it helps to include an address, so we know what you refer to. Is it?

    Valli Produce
    850 North Roselle Road
    Hoffman Est, IL 60194
    www.valliproduce.com
    847-252-7200

    Or

    Valli Produce Inc
    450 East Golf Road
    Arlington Heights, IL 60005
    http://www.valliproduce.com
    847-439-9700

    Or?

Don't take it too hard, there are people who post all the time without leaving much of a clue where a place may be.

When you refer to gyro meat, is it off the cone or packaged ready to be reheated on a griddle?

    Welcome to LTH!

    Regards,
    Cathy2

I frequent the Arl. Hts. store, uh, frequently.

Great meat, butchers willing to work with you, nice variety of 'round the world stuffs, but a little pricier than others.

    Never gotten their gyros meat.

I frequent the one in Arlington Heights, although the one on Roselle is bigger and better.

I do all my grocery shopping there after work, before driving back to the city. The produce prices are very good, and are good quality. The deli is nice. I can't vouch for the meats, but beyond the standard deli cold cut stuff, they have a large selection of cheeses, olives, premade italian / mediterranean-ish food like arrancini, spinakapida(sp?), octopus salad, fresh mozarella balls.

I also like the wide selection of Italian, Indian, Asian, and Mexican vegetables, spices and products. Their homemade salsa has ruined me for making my own.

Their standard (i.e. American) goods like toothpaste or coffee or soda are cheaper at the Jewel if you feel like making two trips

    Still quite nice.

On Friday, I had time before a court appearance in Rolling Meadows so I dropped in.

Red bell peppers were 65 cents/pound & sweet.

Picked up cannoli for dessert. They were delicious & had a bit of orange zest (I think).

Proscuiitto & green olives. Olives were a huge success in DH's olive bread.

Plus they had sweet & tiny green peanuts! Yes. I will boil them this week.

    Great finds available at Valli's.

I drive past a Dominicks and two Jewel's to shop at Valli Produce every week.
Good produce and deli at low prices. Best fresh salsa in the NW Burbs.

I consider Valli, especially the one on Roselle, to be an afternoon's entertainment. If you're cooking a specific cuisine, you may do better at a store that specializes in that cuisine, as far as finding particular ingredients, but if you're just exploring, the range of offerings is pretty amazing and can consume hours. And the produce section is astonishing. Not the only place to offer much of what it has, but remarkable just the same.
