I'm having a little Christmas lunch. This is the menu so far: coq au vin, buttered noodles, green beans with red pepper. For dessert, I think I'm serving chocolate crepes with blueberries and whipped cream with port wine to drink.

What to start with? Soup? Salad? An amuse-bouche?

    Thanks for your ideas.

I love soup, eventhough a salad would undoubtedly be easier to serve - what about a simple cream soup - chestnut, mushroom?

    I need some menu help.

Brunch on NY Day - so far I know I will be making Kedgeree. I want to have something sweet, and I feel like I should have something before hand too. Would having scones with the kedgeree be weird? I think I would do just plain ones, and serve with butter or clotted cream and a few jams.

For the sweet I was thinking about making 3-citrus bars (like lemon bars, but with lemon/lime/blood orange).

    Do I need a pre-meal nibble?
