Not sure there's another topic for this - you made something and it just didn't work out. Can it be recovered?

I made a cake yesterday, and left out the sugar. The texture is almost, but not quite, right - it's passable. The flavor is good, but clearly not sweet. The cake is chocolate orange. My first thought is to chop it up and layer it in a bowl with some orange marmalade. Then I thought about maybe soaking it in a sugar syrup like you do with baklava.

Anyone else have suggestions for me? (and if there is a more appropriate thread, mods please go ahead and merge)

    Smoothie? :D

As you suggested, maybe you could pour a sweet syrup over it to restore it?

Not a baker, but perhaps just top it with versions of what you intended to have on the cake in the first place: say, candied orange peel, melted chocolate, sprinkled sugar?

Add apricot or raspberry jam and/or serve as is, w/o apologies or excuses. See how people react. Lots of recipes originated as mistakes. Well, the only one I can think of is the negroni sbagliato but I'm sure there's more.

Baked Alaska. Cut cake into layers, sandwich with ice cream, cover in sweetened meringue, brown with a blow torch (or under the broiler briefly). Flambé it, if you dare and serve.
