Looking to find GOOD Lithuanian Sausage. FRESH NOT FROZEN.
Lithuanian sausage is made with onion, NOT Garlic.
All the stores around 67th & 69th & California are long gone. Heard rumors they may have moved to Lemont??
Recent purchases have been below average, not worth a return trip.
    Thanks,
    Wally Wade

Midlothian Midwest Foods down by us makes Lithuanian sausage in-house, as well as Italian sausage and Polish sausage and various other styles. It may only be available frozen most of the time, I don't know, I doubt they sell a ton of it (whereas they usually have fresh Italian and Polish sausage available) but if you call ahead you might be able to find out when they've got it available fresh.

I haven't tried the Lithuanian but I like their Polish and Italian. I'd say it's worth a call, anyway.

Bobak's on Archer usually has it when I go there. And I suspect that Grand Duke's Deli would also have it. Call ahead, in either case.

On my way to a friend's house for a pig roast today, I drove past a place called AJ Meats on 99th Street. Curious, I looked it up online and it is apparently known for its house-made Lithuanian sausage.

My family has gotten Lithuanian sausage from AJ Meats in Evergreen Il for the last 40 years. They're closed now and Christmas won't be the same without it. I have tried other stores take on Lithuanian sausage, but it doesn't come close to AJ's. anyone out there know AJ's and find something that compares?

Try the deli at Grand Duke's or Senasis Vilnius (same ownership):

You might also try Racine Bakery. They have a deli and meats section along with some prepared foods. That's where I get my bacon buns.

    Any new or current spots?
Not Bobaks or the usual suspects.
Some place that might be good.
    Thanks,

Bumping an old thread, but for future references.....
Lithuanian sausage is not made with onions. There is garlic, but not as much as in Polish. Less garlic and allspice is usually what makes the difference. AJ Meats use to make the best Lith. sausage, but since their "demise" a good alternative is :S & T Provisions, a mostly Italian store but with various sausages. Their Irish Sausage is extremely close to AJ's Lith. taste. Racine is pretty good too.

Ream's Meat Market in Elburn makes a good sausage that they call Lithuanian. I told them that I thought that it tasted like Ukrainian Kobasi (sp?) which I was looking for. So sometimes they call it Ukrainian sausage.
Rich's Deli on Western and Ann's Bakery on Chicago Ave have lots of sausages, none that they call either Ukrainian or Lithuanian, that are similar in taste to either.
