I was crushed (not in the wine sense) when Fine Wine Brokers vacated Lincoln Square. However, Provenance (Leland between Lincoln and Western) was sold in September and the new owner has changed the name to Augusta Food and Wine.

From speaking with him, it sounds like he plans to leave the food offerings generally as they were. But I was excited to hear that he plans to dramatically increase the store's wine offerings and that was readily apparent when I was in there today. There were far more bottles of wine offered, many with accompanying tasting notes. He indicated that his forte (and prior experience) is largely with wine, and if I recall correctly, he indicated that he used to be in charge of the wine program at Volo in Roscoe Village. Augusta will also be doing wine tastings every Thursday evening.

I've been getting to know Augusta over the past several months and every day I'm more impressed with this place. They have a pretty nice gourmet items (including Pleasant House kale & mushroom pies -- not sure if they'll have others) and a reasonably priced and varied wine selection, so in that sense they've replaced Fine Wine Brokers as my local wine shop. The other day I picked up some Florette goat brie. This stuff gives brie a great name - a nice rind, perhaps a little creamier than your average brie and just packed with flavor . . . funkier than most bries and impossible for me to stop eating.
