Post #1 - December 29th, 2011, 12:31 pmI am in search of a new can opener. I had the Molineuix hand held model (as opposed to a rectangle upright) which I liked. It cut the very top of the can sans magnet to hold the lid. It was great for large cans of tomatoes which were too heavy for my old opener. Any recs?What disease did cured ham actually have?

Post #4 - February 10th, 2019, 5:25 pmI have not seen an electric version of the kind I use, only manual. Could well be I have not looked in the right places. I have had trouble finding them in stores, but maybe you can do better. I think I only looked in a serious kitchen ware store years ago. The first one I got on a closeout as nobody else would buy them.
It does NOT cut the metal at all. NO sharp edges. you can actually put the top back on the can and it seals well enough to keep the contents a few days.
In the early days the lids were soldered on, but the lead solder was poison, so they had to stop using it, lids are now glued on. This opener breaks the glue seal. Note that breaking the glue seal requires very precise alignment, and in my use, these openers only last a year or two. It is dependent upon closely following directions. After going all the way around, you must back off before removing the opener, or it will fail in a matter of days or weeks.Absolutely no cut can opener

Post #5 - February 10th, 2019, 5:48 pmThe little inset picture above is inaccurate. You run the can opener all the way around and it looks like nothing has changed. But you can then pull the lid off, the lid has a smo0the edge, and a slight lip that will fit back into the can, which also has a smooth edge. If others are not familiar with this, just ask and I will take pictures and post them. I'd have to dig a can out of the recycle bin or open a new one. Using this type on unusual cans, like sardines or some foreign ones may shorten its life. A few cans with very deep tops may not open with it. The lid is as large as the can, so it does NOT drop into the contents and get food on the top of the can..you don't have to wash off the top of the can because the food will never come into contact with the top of the lid.--Carey aka underdog

My apologies. (1) there may be an electric version of the kind I use (2) once familiar with the benefits of NO sharp edges, some people may be willing to forgo the electricity, as I did.--Carey aka underdog

Post #9 - February 11th, 2019, 11:46 amHi, I recently bought one of these for my mom who has arthritis and is unable to use a manual opener. It cuts the can so there are no sharp edges and you can use the top as a lid as mentioned up-thread. It works great and should last a long time.
