    It's not hard to make. . .
Man : I can't understand how a poet like you can eat that stuff.
    T. S. Eliot: Ah, but you're not a poet.

    Hi,

In fact shoofly pie isn't really a pie. It is a cake with a crumb top, which happens to be baked in a pie pan.

The origins of the name suggest Shoofly is a poor transliteration of the french work chou-fleur, which is cauliflower. It has been suggested a shoofly pie looks like a cauliflower.

Recipes are all over the place. I agree with Josephine this should not be too difficult to make at home. Believe me, if I knew where you could buy it, then I would advise but no place comes to mind.

    Regards,

    Thanks for the information.

In answer to my own question, a shoofly pie can be bought in the Amish community in Nappanee, Indiana near South Bend.

Inglenook Pantry in Geneva makes shoofly pie reguarly. They are a Pennsylvannia Dutch restaurant started about 25 years ago by the Weaver brothers and their sister who are all from Lancaster PA, I believe they still go back to buy products for their restaurant. Inglenook recently opened for breakfast and has all their pastries availible for purchase as well as a deli counter with sausages and cheeses.

It's also not hard to make, just be sure to make the recipe you like - dry or wet bottom.
