A&G Grocery (Belmont, just west of Central) is near my auto body shop, which I had to visit last week (folks: damn it!, look in your rear-view mirror while parked before throwing your car door wide open).
O.K.
I scored a nice tin of smoked herring flillets, a jar of anchovies, some great smoked sausage, some Lithuanian rye bread, and, from the deli, some refreshing vegetable salad (the white salad to which my Lithuanian fiancee has me addicted: a kind of potato salad with finely chopped potatoes, green peas, carrots, and mayo).
The highlight: a package of unsliced Hungarian-Style Smoked Bacon/Kolozsvari ($5.99/lb).
I cut it thick. It fried nicely, rendering much of the fat.
I'm heading back tomorrow, with a ding-free car, for more.
Cheers,
Wade
