A&G Grocery (Belmont, just west of Central) is near my auto body shop, which I had to visit last week (folks: damn it!, look in your rear-view mirror while parked before throwing your car door wide open).

    O.K.

I scored a nice tin of smoked herring flillets, a jar of anchovies, some great smoked sausage, some Lithuanian rye bread, and, from the deli, some refreshing vegetable salad (the white salad to which my Lithuanian fiancee has me addicted: a kind of potato salad with finely chopped potatoes, green peas, carrots, and mayo).

The highlight: a package of unsliced Hungarian-Style Smoked Bacon/Kolozsvari ($5.99/lb).

I cut it thick. It fried nicely, rendering much of the fat.

I'm heading back tomorrow, with a ding-free car, for more.

    Cheers,
    Wade

Damn! There is NO place in KC where I could find something like that, most especially right now at 10PM, when I need it, having just been jolted by your foodporn!

If this is the product produced by Bende, it's available at a number of produce stores and independent grocers around town (I'm sure Produce World carries it, for one), as well as at their outlet store and, Geo, by mail order.

LAZ, I checked the site and it looks promising. Wade, is there any way you could maybe verify that LAZ has that beautiful stuff identified right? The terminology even sounds right.

    Yummm. I sure hope so!

I apologize for not noting that, but I had been elevated to bacon nirvana.

I was going to post an image of the package, but it was out of focus.

    Very good smoke and cure.

    Cheers,

heh-heh Wade, post the out-of-focus image, maybe we can squint just right and make it visible! :^)

BTW, I just discovered this aft that I can get Nueske's bacon in a shop on the Plaza. Plus Molinari salami. Is that great or what?!
