In the last year or 2, the price for limes and lemons has skyrocketed. Did one of the Florida hurricanes destroy a major producer? Are these prices temporary?

Don't know about the crop, though I've noticed lemon prices in particular. However, yesterday at HMart in Niles, both were on sale as well: lemons were 7/$1 and limes were 15/$1 though both were on the small side and not the highest quality I've ever seen....

Though Marketplace on Oakton can almost always be counted on for good prices (though the quality can vary;) their regular price is 10 for $1.

It's a good place for avocados, as well - although the quality can be very spotty (literally) but they're usually a solid $1 less than regular grocery.

Cermak Produce, on North just west of Western, consistently has 15 limes for $1. No idea why they're 3/$1 at Domminick's.

I've never been to Cermak Produce, but when my neighborhood Rogers Park Fruit Market has limes for 10 or 20 to the buck, they aren't the same as the limes that go for 3/$1 at Dominick's. They're noticeably smaller. Not "key lime small", but smaller than the mini-lemon shape that I usually see at the big chain grocers.

That's not a problem for me, but I thought it was a decent explanation for some of the price difference.

In fact, smaller limes are better for garnishing a drink or such, since you're wasting less if you don't use the whole thing.

    Yo Johnny,
I get a pounding sensation in my posterior just walking into a Domincks or Jewell store and it ain't just the limes! One of my favorites, Kretchmar ham is $7.98 lb. at Dominicks and Jewell while at Harvest Time on Lawrence the exact same ham is $3.29 lb.
I like Cermak Produce for meat as well. Most of the beef at Cermak seems to be USDA choice. At the Jewell store on Lincoln in North Center the vast majority of the beef bears the Jewell "Blue Ribbon" label which is USDA select at a higher price than the USDA choice at Cermak. If you want to get a USDA choice grade steak at Jewell just reach a little deeper and reward yourself with their cleaverly labled "Steakhouse Choice".
Jewell's new biometric fingerprint scanners get my hackles up as well, but hey, thats a rant for another time!
