So I have a secret santa who is out of the chicago area, and I'd like to send him some steaks, but I've heard (and read) some pretty yuck things about Omaha Steaks, the old stand-by.

Has anyone had any experience with any other services such as this?

There's a thread on this topic here. There was also a useful discussion recently on Slate which confirmed my own conclusion that the secret of real beefy goodness is finding yourself a grass-fed cow.

I use Allen Brothers as my mail-order source for qualtiy steaks. I received some Omaha Steaks as a gift, its the thought that counts. I can buy better steaks at many grocery stores. Even Wal-Mart

I second the nomination of Allen Brothers. i have sent them as gifts in the past. They travel well and are much higher quality than Omaha.
