It is nice, and I overlooked it earlier, that CI doesn't have advertisements a la the Conde Nast publications. I don't mind advertisements in a magazine unless they become difficult to quickly distinguish from the actual content, vis a vis "special advertising sections" which do, indeed, annoy me.

If it's a choice between getting spammed and called at home and paying a premium versus having to leaf through a bunch of ads while reading, I'd rather leaf through a bunch of ads. I understand it's unrealistic to want the best of both worlds; they have to make money somehow.

I'm tempted to subscribe to the website instead, but fear that will bring the phone calls down on my head once again.

Anyhow - thanks for listening and the good comments on this. To each their own.

I put in my order on May 2, but have not yet received any issues. It was for a new subscription, not a renewal. Has anyone who used this deal received their first issue yet?

    me, neither.

When I received my subscription via the e-Bay, the auction had comments similar to this one I just pulled off e-Bay:

Subscriptions may take 90 days or more for the first issue to arrive.
*** Please Remember: The industry standard lead time on magazines is usually about 4-8 weeks for weekly and bi-weekly magazines, 6-10 weeks on monthly, and 8-12 weeks on bi-monthly. Often times your first issue will arrive sooner, it depends on the publisher. Please allow at least 90 days for your first issue to arrive.

It took roughly that much time to get the first issue several years ago.

    Regards,
    Cathy2

To follow up on my earlier post, after some comparison shopping, I decided to go with Living Cookbook. I am still in the trial (25 uses) period though; haven't yet paid for a license and am a long way from getting all my clipped/saved/torn out recipes stored in it. But I think it'll work well for my needs.

As for subscriptions, the only two things I've been saving have been Cook's Illustrated and Fine Cooking. I get Bon Appetit and Gourmet (haven't yet tried Saveur), but I just pull out the recipes I like. I say that, but in reality I just finished plowing through a four-year backlog of Bon Appetits and Gourmets that hadn't yet been recipe-harvested and recycled yet.

Just an update - I tried the link to publicationstation.net and was told the "food" coupon code had expired or been used too many times.

Rather than email the site and beg, I just checked ebay and paid $12.48 for a 4 year subscription. That's a price I can happily accept, even if it could have been less.

    Thanks everyone!

there have been times where we've split open an avocado to realize that it's not your regular hass. off the top of my head i don't remember the types that i've guessed they were after seeing the saveur article. the problem is, aside from florida avocados, i've never seen avocados labeled by type in the store (although i sometimes see them labeled as hass).

    Hi,

One small caveat on these inexpensive subscriptions: you may not get a renewal teaser in the mail. My subscription to Saveur quietly stopped without my noticing for a while. You may have to pay attention to when it winds down yourself to re-subscribe.

    Regards,
    Cathy2
