They sell a lot of Ferrara Pan items and have these deliciously evil bright blue, crunchy on the outside, caramel on the inside, eggs that are amazing. Next on the list to try there are homemade turtles that look fantastic as well. My kids also swear by their jelly beans.

The Ferrara Pan factory outlet store is only a few blocks from there.

When I was a tot, we used to buy foam cartons of chocolate covered marshmallow eggs at KMart. Instead of 12 plain marshmallows, there were 4 plain, 4 orange, and 4 strawberry or cherry. They all looked the same, so the flavor was always a surprise. I haven't seen these in years, anyplace I look. They were not Russell Stover or Whitman's. Anybody remember these or know where I can find them?

Does anyone do a decent "fruit and nut" egg anymore? With the solid core not the marshmellow?

I just got back from Fannie May. I got my son and his girlfriend chocolate bunnies even though they are in their twenties... tradition dies hard. They did have a fruit and nut egg. Also trinidad eggs but I got the last one.

Some years ago after Fannie May disappeared (why or why did they) they suddenly came back. I ran to the "new" FM and was very disappointed in the candy. It did not taste the same and it looked like it was made by amateurs. Lately though, I have been liking it.
I bought four pixies, my favorite and several caramarsh. I enjoyed the pixie fix on the way home. I think they are smaller than I remember them but still delicious.

Don't be so sure that Fannie May is bad candy. I think they are a good bit better than most you will get. Godiva bunnies last year were not a taste hit. I certainly would not give ferrara pan candy for easter but thats just me. Nothing against it. But for me easter candy is all about chocolate rabbits, foil covered eggs and bunnies, jelly beans, and cartons of marshmallow eggs and rabbits (frankly the cheap ones on those). I am heading out to get some of the cheap marshmallow eggs at the drugstore. I think I will skip the peeps.

Is Fannie May the same as it was? Probably not. But it is good and not something to be ashamed to put in an easter basket.

Pie Lady I bought a foam carton of marshmallow eggs at Utra foods. I do not know if they are different flavors or just plain. It looks like a box of regular eggs but it is very light because its marshmallow. I am also going to CVS to see about the peeps and the other easter stuff today.

Dove makes surprisingly good for drugstore candy foil covered bunnies - they come in a couple of different sizes & my three year old twin nephew & nieces adored a basket with the little ones last year (they come in boxes of three, compared to the single large size rabbit Dove also offers). Dove also makes truffle filled eggs, but these seem to be harder to find every year.

Yes I love the milk chocolate dove things wrapped in foil paper. If the bunnies are anything like that they are good.

I received an "answer" from KMart. They insisted they have them there and at Sears and even provided links. I looked online and there is no description of other flavors, and nothing on the packaging when I later returned to KMart. I wrote them back and told them that, but there was this helpful response:
Unfortunately, we are unable to offer all of our products online. Our retail store product inventory is not available online for us to check for you. We suggest you contact the nearest Kmart retail store in your area for more information.
If I can be of any further assistance, please respond back to this email. I am always here to help.
I want to make you happy.

I was on a fruitless expedition to find the new Sur la Table at Northbrook Court today (when did they remove all of the mall directories, dammit?!), but found a completely unexpected jewel. Just outside the ground floor mall exit from Lord & Taylor, THERE IS NOW A SEE'S CANDY SHOP. I plotzed, then kvelled. What a wonderful discovery! See's candy is the West Coast equivalent of old-school Fanny May - and maybe better. I may have to go back tomorrow. The dark chocolate covered almond brittle is calling to me. . .

Wow! See's is making inroads here! Having grown up with them, this news makes me very happy. Do they still start throwing samples at you the second you walk in?

I could relly go for one of their chocolate lollipops right now.

Just in case it helps in the future, the Sur la Table in Northbrook Court is on the upper level, nearly all the way to the east, on the south side.

FYI, there's also a See's Candy store in Downers Grove at 128 Ogden. That stretch of Ogden is quite a foodie hotspot, with Standard Market being just down the road, along with Solty's Deli & Meats at 305 W Ogden in Westmont (great blintzes).

But, back to topic. I really missed the Fannie May marshmallow eggs, but this year I got a box after Easter on sale. They tasted the way I remembered them: creamy marshmallow, with just the right ratio of chocolate to marshmallow. I was very hoppy!

Thanks, UCJames! Good info. I really did want to visit, but I bailed and found exactly what I wanted at that gigantic free-standing Crate&Barrel store, instead. I'll file this for future use, and come in through Nieman-Marcus next time. That's always good for a laugh, anyway.
