Hi- In April of this year, I gave a glowing review of my Krup's FBC2 toaster oven. Before I bought it, I read all of the reviews on Amazon, and about 90% of them were positive, and about 10% of them were very negative, I decided to take my chance, since most of the reviews were very positive, and Consumer Reports and Cooks Illustrated magazine both liked this particular toaster oven.
Last night, I went out to the kitchen to make some toast. The toaster would not work, and I noticed the circuit breaker had shut off the oven. When I flipped the circuit breaker, and turned on the toaster oven, there was lots of noise, and smoke coming out of the outlet. I think the toaster oven got too hot. When I plugged a lamp into the same outlet, it worked just fine.
Since I have had the toaster oven for over a year, it is no longer under warranty. I got a good deal on it at Macy's, and only paid $120 for a $200 toaster oven, but that is a lot of money to spend on something that is only going to last 16 months. Many of the other unfavorable reviews on Amazon mentioned that the oven got too hot, and in some cases caught on fire. Apparently some times the toaster oven just starts on its own, and Consumer Reports actually recommends that you unplug the oven when you are not using it. Unfortunately I did not do this. I recommend that nobody buy this toaster oven. Thanks, Nancy
