Hi- Discount Magazine has just brought back the Black Friday sale until midnight tonight. There are lots of magazine deals besides just Cook's Illustrated and Cook's Country. There is Consumer Reports, Savier, Bon Appetite, Eating Well and Cooking Light and lots more.

BTW- I used to subscribe to Nutrition Action. I got it for a Christmas present probably four years ago. I really enjoyed it, but I was too cheap to pay the $24 a year. About four months ago I got a mailing from them with a special offer. I could subscribe to Nutrition Action for $8 for one year, or $16 for a two year subscription. It just sat there, and I decided a few days ago to see if it still worked, and it did. I signed up for two years for $16. I checked and it is not a one time only deal. I gave the link to somebody else, and she was able to get it for the same price. If anybody wants it, they can PM me, and I will send them the link to the deal. You can also go on their website, and sign up for a free email newsletter that comes out once a week. I think it contains different info than what is in the print version. Hope this helps, Nancy

Hi- I was just on mashupmom's facebook page, and there is currently on Amazon a deal for Bon Appetite. You can get Bon Appetite for $.99 for six months. It is an automatic renewal though, and so once you purchase it, you have to get rid of the automatic renewal. The automatic renewal I am sure is going to be way more than $.99. $.99 is for the print edition, but you are also allowed to access the kindle edition for free while your subscription is valid.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XW ... 960faThere are some other magazines that you can get for $.99, but they are not food related, and so I can't mention them. Just go to the 100 most popular magazine subscriptions, and there are some listed there for $.99 for six months. I am not sure how long these are going to be on sale, and so get them while you can. The rest of the $.99 magazines are also auto renewal, and so you have to remember to get rid of that.

I just want to remind people also that the Black Friday sale is still going on at discountmags.com. Today is the last day. Lots of really good deals there, including Cook's Illustrated, Cook's Country, Saveur, Bon Appetite, Eating Well and many others to choose from. Hope this helps, Nancy

I was wrong. The sale at discountmags.com is still going on. According to mashupmom, today is supposed to be the last day for the sale. I guarantee you that it is going to be a long time before Cook's Illustrated gets to be $5.99 a year again, if it ever does. currently you can sign up for two years at that rate. Magazines make wonderful presents. Also my offer still stands on the code for Nutrition Action. If anybody wants to get it for $8 a year, or 2 years for $16, PM me, and I will email you the link for the deal. and you can also go on their website, and sign up for a free email newsletter which comes out once a week, and I believe supplies different information than the print newsletter does. Hope this helps, Nancy

Hi- Somebody just PM me that she could not find the deal for Cook's Illustrated. I just went on mashupmom, and I pulled up the link that she posted.

You have to use this link to get the deal on the magazines. If you just go to discountmags.com, it will show up as $24.99. If you are looking for really good deals like this, it is better to grab them when you see them, because you never know how much longer they are going to be around. This is especially true on Amazon. I am not sure if the $.99 Bon Appetite deal on Amazon is still valid. Hope this help, Nancy

The Highland Park library and many others participate in a program where you can read magazines digitally using your library card. They use an app called RBdigital to download them onto your iPad. The lineup changes but currently include Bon Apetit, Saveur and Cook’s Illustrated.

Wow, that is quite a shift in practices. Usually deeply discounted subscriptions are related to boosting numbers for advertising revenue.

I just got issue 2 of Eaten, the new magazine of food history. Liked it enough to go online and order issue 1. They're $20 each or $55 for a one-year subscription (3 issues). Advertising tends to be one-page patronage ads, like at the theater, rather than a "real" ad. But enjoying it so far.

I also subscribe to Milk Street, which is $19.95/year, but everything (such as online) is extra -- but no advertising. Very focused on exploring the world and bringing it home. Makes me feel a bit smug, as they keep saying, "You'll probably have trouble finding this ingredient," and I respond, "Not in Chicago I won't." Reminds me how fortunate we are when it comes to food shopping.
