Does anyone know if there is anyplace closer than the Armitage store to me (I'm in north Evanston) where I might find a good variety of Vosges' more exotic offerings? I know of various places that offer one or two bars, but I need more than that -- I'm including a "guess the mystery flavor in the chocolate" game as part of the chocolate buffet my daughter has requested for her birthday party this weekend, and so I need four or five choices. I'd rather avoid a run to Lincoln Park at this moment. Any ideas?

Foodstuffs usually has 4-5 flavors, although it varies. I was just in the Glenview branch and they may even have had 6.

Thanks for the tip. The Evanston Foodstuffs only had two suitable Vosges bars, but they did have some other flavored chocolates that will work just fine. Thanks for saving me the trip!

The last few times I've been in a Whole <strike>Paycheck</strike> Foods, they've had several flavors of the bars. I wasn't as impressed with "Fire" as I'd expected. Probably the truffles are more expressive in their flavors -- this seemed a bit lacking in depth to me for all the hype they've gotten.

    Glad it worked out, Toni!

I've tried most of the Vosges bars and find that they vary a lot as far as how much flavor they have. I keep meaning to try some of their truffles but one, I like bars better in general, and two, I like a truffle that looks more homemade than the Vosges ones. So I'm thinking, Vosges' chocolate and taleggio cheese truffle sounds good, maybe I'll just combine a piece of chocolate and a slice of cheese. And so on.

I'm not a really big fan of chocolate bars in general, no matter how good they are or what jazzy flavors they have -- give me a good pastry or piece of pie any day, if I'm going to consume those kind of calories. So while I've tried a few of the Vosges items they don't do much for me, but I'm the wrong person to judge. But I'm sure my daughter's 12 year old friends, most of whom have not gone far beyond Hershey, will get some sort of charge out of chili-infused chocolate. Again, thanks for the help -- I live close to Foodstuffs but don't shop there much (we did when the kids were infants but once we could cook again I refused to pay their prices anymore.)

Yeah, I get to Foodstuffs a lot less now that my father no longer lives down the block from one location, and that has been good for my pocketbook. There's certain stuff I will still always buy when I'm going past one, especially the Weight Watchers-rated products when I'm dieting. Strangely, some of those are not horribly expensive, like some of the vegetable chilis for 5 bucks a two-serving tub. Others are obscene. My sister tells me the main function of Foodstuffs is to make you feel like you are being frugal when you shop at Whole Foods.

I think the chocolate tasting thing for the kids is a great idea! Please report on how it goes if you get the chance.

I don't suppose there are any Vosges chocolates (the goji berry bar in particular) available in the Golf Mills Mall shopping area? I have to drive there tonight to do some very last-minute Christmas shopping, and the goji chocolate bar is one of the things on my list.

I saw a selection of at least 6 different Vosage bars at Southport Grocery last week.

SteveZ, THANKS!! I e-mailed Southport and they told me they have the goji variety in stock. I wanted to get this for my mom, and had called and stopped by two different Whole Foods previously (which didn't have the goji kind), so this is great news!

Now you can find a new line of Vosges chocolate at Argo Tea locations:

Provenance in Logan Square (and I assume also in Lincoln Square) carries Vosgues chocolate bars. I love the Red Fire bar but would recommend against the sugar free even if they are out of regular. lesson learned.
