If you happen to know of any community kitchens that can be rented out for a nominal fee or for free, please let me know.

I'm looking to secure a venue with kitchen space for cooking events.

Some places that I think may work would include church kitchens, local community hall kitchens, high rise "party rooms", etc. Any ideas or contacts I can reach out to?

    HI,

Please reply here with your tips because this is a never ending headache to find suitable meeting space.

Our church rents out its fellowship hall which includes a full kitchen with two full industrial sized stoves, 3 drain sink, lots of counter space etc.

I know it's priceier for weekend evenings (we rent it for alot of quincieras) but for a weekday evening or weekend day function, you could probably negotiate a deal.

Probably more than a nominal fee, but this might be useful for someone else who comes to this thread -- the Chopping Block can do private events. This may extend to simply renting the space.

All I know about the Chopping Block is from peeking into the Merchandise Mart location from time to time.

They do list some charitable activities on their website, so perhaps in certain cases that might extend to accomodations on cost for the space...

Thanks everyone - I've emailed both Kitchen Chicago & Chopping Block to see if they can provide rates and additional info. Kitchen Chicago is what I'm going with since they have the room I'm looking for and the flexibility of available time.

The latest Spice House email mentions a new rental kitchen in Evanston.

"Flexible rentable commercial kitchen space along side a state-of-the-art demonstration/event studio."

There are a couple of threads overlapping with this one (moderators, want to merge? [1][2])

I have to admit up front that one of the women who run Now We're Cookin' is a good friend of mine, but the space is gorgeous, and they really care about helping their clients. The demonstration kitchen and event space is really nicely set up for both demos and parties.

I've gone to a couple of their Saturday afternoon post-farmers market Chef Series, and really enjoyed the classes.

Check out the local fraternal groups that have their own buildings- VFW, American Legion, K of C, and the like. Many have modest semi-commercial kitchens and welcome the rental revenue.

In Hiinsdale, for instance, Wellenss House - a support group for cancer victims and their families, has a nice, well-equipped kitchen in a fairly
large meeting room and looks for users.
