What are the best places for cheesecake in Chicago?

Sure, I like Eli's but are there other places I need to try? Any local bakeries that you recommend?

    Thanks.

In this thread I recommended my former employer, JR Cheesecake Bakery, although there was some disagreement about style comparisons.

There are other recommendations in that thread too.

    Best,
    Michael

A few months ago, I met some LTHers at Chuck's Southern Comfort Cafe where we sampled some of his incredible dulce de leche cheesecake for dessert. It is not on the menu every day, but I'm sure you can call ahead a couple of days and special order it.

Another, possibly unexpected option for cheesecake is discussed here:

Wow, Michael - I posted on that thread but apparently wasn't paying attention...other than the hours, that must have been a foodie dream job! I shipped a JR's cheesecake to the 'spouse once when he was out of town on his birthday - they have a sampler option for shipping that's really fun. Far and away my favorite cheesecake....

Now I'm craving it...sounds like a pit-stop is in order for the weekend!

I think my favorite part of the job was the fresh-baked muffins.

Everything at JR's sold to the public (at that point in time) was frozen. Most of the products (especially cheesecake) didn't suffer at all from freezing. The muffins, on the other hand, were much, much better when eaten fresh.

Cranberry muffins were baked on Thursdays (I think) and the woman who ran the kitchen knew that I loved them. There was always a warm cranberry muffin waiting for me every Thurs.

Their other baked goods are underrated (well, maybe not underrated - it's just hard to get past the cheesecake) When I managed the cafe at Borders I wanted them as a source, but they were expensive - but the muffins were really, really good (and I never had one that wasn't frozen.)

While you're in Rogers Park, you might want to go a little farther east, too. It's not cheesecake, per se, but the lemon-cheese pie at Bar-B-Que Bob's is scrumptious. They do sell whole pies. (And wonderful sweet-potato pie as well.)

Where can I get a quality cheesecake? Creamy New York style. Eli's is OK but not what I'm looking for. Any suggestions would be helpful. Price is not really an issue.

You probably won't want anything in this thread.

    I suggest mail order: www.lindysnyc.com

I'm a big fan of lemon cheesecake and had some success last weekend when I made this version with gingersnap crust for a colleague's going away party. For the occasion, glazed strawberries seemed more festive of a topping than lemon leaves.

11 City Diner brings in Junior's Cheesecake from Brooklyn. New Yorkers argue about whether or not Junior's or Lindy's is better. I don't know anywhere where you can get Lindy's locally but I would be interested in a side by side looky-loo. http://www.juniorscheesecake.com/
