'Tis the season for coffee, tea and company, which translates into a desire and need to have baked goods on hand. I haven't time always to whip up a batch of coffee cake or cookies when I'm expecting guests, but I have had a bit of trouble finding a good bakery. Then it dawned on me, to the LTH Forum!

Can anyone recommend a bakery with the general staples like pastries, danishes, maybe bread/buns and muffins. I've seen a bakery or two around here but they tend to specialize a bit more in wedding cakes or cakes in general if memory serves right.

I'm often driving through Wheaton, Lisle, Bolingbrook, Aurora to Batavia, and other adjacent suburbs, so for a quality place I'm happy to travel. I've just had the worst luck otherwise. Help!

If you find one let me know. We have a dearth of bakeries in this area.

There is the flour barrel in Glen Ellyn downtown, nothing in Wheaton. Going west on Roosevelt Road there is a bakery called Heidi's. I once got a cake there and it was good. Its in Geneva, IL. State St. and Roosevelt are one and the same.

Bakers, please start a bakery here!!!

You might also try Cortez Bakery in West Chicago, on Roosevelt in the strip mall just east of rt59.

Is that the strip mall where Pal Joey's is/was located? If they're still there, check out their pie, it used to be very good.

I recommend Harner's in North Aurora. They have to-die-for butter pecan coffee cake. It's about $5.50, and you can buy a half instead of the whole coffee cake if you want to. The doughnuts are pretty good, and this time of year they have a special apple, or pumpkin or spice...I can't remember.

Plus, this is the home of the most amazing pork tenderloin sandwich I've had in a long time -- a special in the restaurant. It's not on the regular menu.

And for cakes and cupcakes, yeah, it's still the Cakery, also in North Aurora, at the corner of Oak Street & Randall Road next to Tommy O's.

    Good luck!

Yes, Cortez Bakery is at the other end of the strip mall where Pal Joey's was once located. About a year ago they moved into a new building about a block away.
