Watch skilled carvers whittle a fresh 400-pound bluefin tuna down to sashimi at Mitsuwa Marketplace (100 E. Algonquin Rd., Arlington Heights; 847-356-6699), December 1st from noon to 1 pm.

Here are some pictures from the Bluefin Tuna carving at Mitsuwa Marketplace on December 1, 2007. The big fish weighed 401 lbs. w/o its head. The head would have added another 100 lbs. This tuna was taken somewhere off the coast of Spain.
The man on the right is sprinkling salt on the ground around the carving table for ritual purification.
When I took this picture, the tip of the samurai-worthy knife came about 8 inches from MY belly.
Toro was being sold for $54.99/lb.
This man is using a spoon to scrap every last bit from the skeleton.
Backbone Parade
I hope this image captures some of the energy of the event.

I'd say that we were lucky, too. Great pics!
