Watch skilled carvers whittle a fresh 400-pound bluefin tuna down to sashimi at Mitsuwa Marketplace (100 E. Algonquin Rd., Arlington Heights; 847-356-6699), December 1st from noon to 1 pm.

I hope someone will get there to document this!

    Regards,
    Cathy2

I've been there before for this and it's quite interesting to watch.

    Hi,

You are indeed lucky. I'll be downtown Chicago and cannot imagine making it there in time.

    Regards,

Here are some pictures from the Bluefin Tuna carving at Mitsuwa Marketplace on December 1, 2007. The big fish weighed 401 lbs. w/o its head. The head would have added another 100 lbs. This tuna was taken somewhere off the coast of Spain.

When I took this picture, the tip of the samurai-worthy knife came about 8 inches from MY belly.

Toro was being sold for $54.99/lb.

I was very lucky to be in the first row of what was at least a five person deep line of spectators. I felt like I was in the Tokyo subway!
