I've been wondering what tamales made with this herb would be like, so does anyone know of groceries within the city that carry Hoja Santa? Maxwell Street Market might have it, but I rarely have time for grocery shopping on Sundays.

On a related note, where are the best places to sample tamales made with this herb?

You can sometimes get it down by us at La Casa del Pueblo, but it's hit or miss. If you don't live near by, I'm sure you could call ahead and ask if it's available.

Thanks! I actually make bi weekly trips to la casa. I'm glad I won't need another grocery to add to my rotation.. I've never seen it there, but I wasn't really looking hard enough.

Topolobampo used to feature tamal misantla periodically. Don't know if they still do. You can also wrap fish in this leaf and then steam it.
    I love animals...they're delicious!

Sol de Mexico had a fish prep with hoja santa last summer, but Carlos mentioned that he could feature it only intermittently as procuring the leaf was difficult.
