Homebrewing is something I'll eventually have to try out, but until then, I'll be doing breads. I have a recipe for spent grain breads that I've been wanting to try out except I'm missing the most crucial ingredient.

Does anyone know of any sources for spent grains? I've heard of some breweries in Chicago as possible sources.

Better yet, are there any homebrewers around here? :)

Does it call for a particular type of grain?

There are plenty of hombrewers on here (myself included) but for for the small amount you probably need you may be better off just hitting a homebrew store and buying some crushed grains. Steep them at 150ish for an hour and drain.

Voila, spent grains! 1lb of base malt should run ya $1.50 max.

Though if you want to avoid this, I'll let ya go nuts on 10-20lbs of spent grains next time I brew ;)
