Last weekend my BF and I were shopping at Costco when we stopped to look at the KitchenAid mixers. I ooh'ed and ahh'ed over it, and mentioned that it was my dream appliance. This weekend, my BF surprised me with a KitchenAid mixer! (I really wasn't angling for it as a present when we first stopped to look at it. Actually, I was hinting that it might be something good to include on a wedding registry.)

I figure, what better way to thank him for my present than to make him some great food?! I made a souffle for dinner the night I received it, and it was delicious. In the next day or two I'm going to make madeleines. We're going out of town later this week, so I probably won't make bread until after we get back. What else should I make? Any suggestions would be appreciated!

One thing I'm considering: Homemade butter. My BF is French, and a bit of a butter snob. I think he might enjoy comparing some homemade butter to the French brands he favors. I think the recent "butter" issue of Saveur talked about making butter at home.

    Nice idea.

And you can make the pate a choux do double duty and finish the meal with profiterols.

I've been playing with the food grinder attachment on my Kitchenaid lately - I highly recommend getting it. I've made three different kinds of sausages - beef/pork, seafood and vegetables (with the sausage stuffer attachment to the food grinder attachment). I also recently got the plates to extrude pasta - I have yet to try those. I can make fettucine and linguine with my Atlas machine, but these let you make extruded shapes like macaroni - my next project.
