Swedish fish are one of my guilty pleasures. The red ones especially. I've always wondered what the flavor is supposed to be. According to wikipedia, the red is supposed to be fruit punch. I always thought the flavor was more unique than the typical "fruit punch" flavor.

Anyway, as a fan of Vitamin Water, I decided to try a new flavor today - the XXX/acai-blueberry-pomegranate. And, what's this?? The flavor was strangely familiar...could it be?? Yes! The Red Swedish Fish flavor! Maybe not an exact match but pretty close! IMHO.

It's akin to the old-skool red licorice whips(before Twizzlers et al got ahold of the concept and insisted upon "actual" fruit flavors found in nature). It's so hard these days to find the throwback red licorice that tastes of fruit punch? wintergreen? wintergreen fruit punch? When I see a licorice strand labeled strawberry I'm sincerely hoping it tastes nothing of the kind. If I want "real fruit taste" I'll open a packet of toddler-approved dino-froots.
