Ok, I did a search and could not find much, so I was hoping people could give me their opinions on grill grates.

I have a old Weber gas grill with the cast iron grates and they need to be replaced and I see that now they have the porcelain enameled or stainless steel cooking grates and flavorizer bars.

Does anyone have a preference or know the pro's and con's of each. I guess that I did not season my cast iron ones enough and over the years I have had a lot of rusting problems.

I would really love to upgrade by the $1,500 price tag is a lot more difficult to swallow than a $100 to update my old Genesis...Like the Cubs...maybe next year. :o

    Thanks.

I bought the enameled cast iron grates at Home Depot a couple of years ago and I love them. The "flavor bars" are the original and seem fine.
Cleaning the grill and gas jets sure helps a lot too

I've got the stainless. I think with enameled grates you'll get more of a non-stick. The stainless requires a little olive oil on the grates.

Stainless doesn't rust and cleans up well.

I bought a set of cast iron grates from Home Depot to replace the porcelain enamel ones the Weber came with. As with cast iron skillets, I like the way they hold the heat. I always brush them with shortening with every use. No rust at all to date after four years. I did have to replace the flavor bars after three, but I use the grill at least once a week all year.
