I've been a fan of El Yucateco's Habanero salsas for some time. A while back, I was introduced to their jalapeño variety after receiving it as a gift. Little did I know that this is not the easiest bottle of salsa to find. I've always kept my eyes open for it, never going to far as to order it and have it shipped.

Lincolnwood Produce has recently re-organized their shelves and expanded their Mexican groceries. They're now carrying plenty of El Yucateco Jalapeño Salsa.

Where the habanero variety is seriously hot and best used judiciously, the jalapeño variety is less hot (but by no means mild or even medium) and has nice chile flavor. It's much more of a slathering sauce. I'm a big fan.

    Pick up a bottle at:

    Lincolnwood Produce
7175 N Lincoln Ave (near Touhy)
    Lincolnwood
    (847) 329-0600

    Best,
    Michael

Lincolnwood Produce is no longer carrying my favorite hot sauce. In fact, the only variety of El Yucateco that they're carrying is the XXXHot Kutbil-Ik sauce (which seems like the easiest one to find these days).

If anyone is aware of a retail outlet for El Yucateco Jalapeño sauce, I'd love to hear about it. Thank you.

I thought I saw it at Harvestime on Lawrence. But I could be thinking of their chipotle hot sauce. The El Yucateco website also lists on-line retailers, including Mexgrocer.com.

Thanks, I'll check Harvestime, it's in my area. I've looked at the online retailers and their prices, when you include shipping, are ridiculous.

I agree on the shipping. I've ordered from Original Juan's (http://www.originaljuan.com/), makers of Pain is Good, Billardo Brothers, among others. It only makes sense if you get some friends together and put in a reasonably large order.

I've posted about El Yucateco sauces here before:

The Mestiza remains quite difficult to find. I still have never seen the Mayakut version mentioned in the other thread. The rest are pretty widely available. I'm pretty sure I saw some jalapeno today at ProduceWorld. Tony's Finer Foods has them available, too. I'll make an effort to keep an eye out and post when I see 'em.

My husband has recently become a big fan of the Carribean flavor. Ultra in Chicago Heights has a very good selection.

I just saw this at Strack and Van Til on Elston (I remember seeing this thread the other day and I was at the store yesterday and made a note to check for the Jalapeno). I think it was going for $1.89 or something. Good luck.

Something must be going on with it. At the Cermak this morning, the Yucateco Jalapeño sticker was still on the shelf where the stuff usually is, but the bottles behind the sticker were all habanero.

green does not equal jalapeño though. Cermak had green and red too, but both were habanero.

oh, yes, sorry. I misremembered michael's question. These were habanero, so I'm useless to him.

Harvestime has El Yucateco Jalapeño in stock. However, it is not stocked in the deli area with the other bottled hot sauces. Rather it is in the grocery aisle with the Goya and La Preferida products near the canned sauces.

Then you're probably not interested that I spotted it at Strack & Van Til today :(

Does anyone know if these two bottles contain the same salsa? Maybe the one on the left is the for-US bottling, the other for Mexico? I suppose I could taste them side by side but the last thing I need is yet another open bottle of hot sauce. Ingredients are the same except the one on the left lists sodium benzoate. Also the stated amount of sodium per 5 gram serving is quite different: 49 mg versus 214 mg. If anyone cares, I think the one on the left came from Pete's Fresh Market, the other from La Pesca.
