I made a ginger snap pie crust a couple of years ago with store bought ginger snap cookies that were in a brown bag. Can't recall the brand. Couldn't locate them last year and used some other store bought cookies that just didn't measure up. Any ideas or suggestions where to find them or a good substitute. Living the western subiurbs.

    Is this it? http://www.stauffers.net/products/assor ... cd9ca00402

I used to buy the Salerno brand sometimes, but they, along with Archway have gone Chapter 11. Not sure what they are sill baking.

I just made a ginger-snap crust this morning for "Silky Smooth Sweet Potato Chiffon Cream Pie" using Nabisco "Ginger Snaps Made with Real Ginger & Molasses". It was as good as any cookie crust I've ever made before.

While I've never used them for a pie crust, the very next time I need to, I will use the TJ's triple ginger snap cookies. Just flat out good ginger snaps. I'm not a ginger snap person, but these things are money. Sick good.
We cannot be friends if you do not know the difference between Mayo and Miracle Whip.

Bill, is this the recipe you made? It really sounds wonderful.

I am embarassed to admit that I searched out a bag of gingersnaps last year and they have sat unopened in the back of the big pantry ever since. By the time I found them, I had forgotten what I wanted them for! They are "Sunny" brand, 14-oz in the brown bag "made with Real Ginger and Molasses." If I am not wrong, I got them at Aldi's.

This reminds me that Clotilde of Chocolate and Zucchini once made gingersnaps using a recipe from Chez Panisse.
With a provenance like that, it would certainly be a waste to use them in a pie crust but what a nice write-up she did.

Yes, Joy. I don't normally use recipes from newspapers - not a good success rate in the past. But this one had me at "Silky". I added some orange liqueur to the garnishing whipped cream and also sprinkled with more crushed ginger snaps for the kill.

    IAhawk,
I think those were the cookies. Where can you purchase other than mail order, if you Know?

    Thanks, Babaluch
