Turns out we're hosting on Thurs., very last minute development. Looks like we'll do a braised beef roast, latkes to start of course. What are some favorite sides that might do well, post-latke, with beef braised in wine?

Ummm... after latkes, who's got room?

Our family has usually just kept it to relish trays, salad, bubbe's jello with dark cherries, cole slaw, with the main course primarily coldcuts (brisket comes along on enough other holidays, and there's a fistful of non-red-meat-except-hotdog-eaters in our clan).

We're pretty much the same as you Joel. We make a family event of grating potatoes while snacking from a veggie tray. Then we eat the latkes and salad, and usually brisket (turkey this year, since my sister won one in a raffle), and maybe a side of steamed veggies or tzimmes. Followed up by simple desserts like jello or my grandmother's fruit compote. Then I slowly slip into a coma.
