    Hi all :)

I'm currently looking into getting a BackWoods Smoker, probably a Fatboy. I was wondering if there was anyone else who may be planning to purchase one soon. I'm thinking of ordering from KRE Smokers, maybe if a few of us order we can cut down the shipping charges.

    happy smokin' season!

I was at Memphis in May bbq fest this year and saw ALOT of Backwoods Smokers--they're solid, well-built cookers, for sure. I think most of the winning teams used these smokers. If I didn't already have (and love) my WSM, and I had the coin to spare, I'd definitely consider a Backwoods. And they're made in Louisiana, close to where I grew up...another plus for me.

thanks for the links to the two sites, those are some nice looking smokers they offer.

A little out of my price range, but very nice.

    good luck with your purchase.

Memphis in May is where Backwoods really made their mark/claim to fame.
Truthfully my WSM rarely gets used since I bought one

I was thinking of visiting one of the KCBS events this year, but that may be put off for another year while I get my smoker :) Maybe I'll look into some closer (decent) events, any suggestions?
    thanks

Is there an entry fee for the public? I see mention of a People's Choice award and no refunds on tickets but no mention of public ticket prices or hours.

Thanks to everyone for the advice. There's a possibility that there may be a few more smokers ordered with mine, so that'll certainly help with the shipping charges.

I ended up with a FatBoy nicely dressed (no guru)

    I can't wait!

    thanks again all,

Backwoods have great insulation and are virtually leak free so you will be fine without a guru. My Party ran a solid 225 for a good 16 hrs at the Alton comp last week ..didnt have to touch vents at all once it hit target temp . Once you get it up to temp all you will ned to do is add water every few hours. Did you get the heat diverter? Hopefully you did so you wont have to add water as much.
anyway just shout if you have questions
whats the wait time on them now? i know this is the busy season for Mike.
Im thinking of getting a Chubby model so I can sell off the WSM so it may be on the same shipment to Keith with yours

btw - if you go to Elk grove look up Jeff Shapiro of Carmichaels Steak House..his team name is Dr Deckle and Mr Hide. He has a Fatboy with a very clever water setup..you will get a kick out of it

Well...I couldn't make it to the Elk Grove Festival. We had plans both days for Father's day. I'll try to make a different one though. Where do you find the list of events?

Saw Jeff's Backwoods in action yesterday, an innovative water setup to be sure. I don't have personal experience cooking on a Backwoods, but from all accounts they take and hold temp very well and are capable of turning out excellent BBQ.

    Hi again all :)

Well, I ended up receiving my FatBoy a couple of weeks ago. This thing is really rock solid in operation and turning out a quality product. I was actually impressed when I received the smoker as to how the downdraft water smoker worked, it really looks like a nice design...and it drafts so well.

thanks a bunch guys and gals!

ya know I was just wondering the other day if you had gotten that delivered yet. Looks great..the stainless doors always knock these cookers up a notch in looks .
Great smokers IMO..they do run solid and consistent once its up to temp..let me know if you have any questions with it
BTW I actually picked up a used Chubby model to go with my Party so I could have something a bit smaller to cart around to bbq demos

When I went to pick up the smoker, Keith from KRE smokers had two Chubby models there. I was surprised that they were a decent size. I'm still glad I ordered the FatBoy, but I wouldn't hesitate to order a Chubby if I were in the market for a small smoker with a decent amount of room.

    Congrats...and thanks for your help!

Dan=they are about half the size of a Party..dont think I would have one as my only smoker..but they make a nice secondary one
