    Anyone rememeber a few weeks ago when Aldi had 1lb pkgs of strawberries for 49c?
    Well, we bought 40 of them bad boys, cleaned and busted em down. They are nicely tucked away in ziplocks in the freezer.

    We're makin jam.

    So, I know that these aren't the bestest flavored berries in the world, so, I'm gonna make a few side jars of strawberry / X jam.
    So far, here are some possible values for X:
    Fresh Basil
    Lemon Balm or Verbena leaf (whatever we have in the garden, I forget which one.)
    Vanilla bean (I'm very bullish on this one!)
    Saffron (not sure about this, but we have a decent amt of threads that we got for cheap when one of the Dominicks went out of business)

    Our csa guy threw us a good handful of rhubarb, so that's covered too.
    Anyone have any suggestions that produced great results?
    We cannot be friends if you do not know the difference between Mayo and Miracle Whip.

    I just made a strawberry, mint, and black pepper jam.

    Strawberry balsamic jam sounds interesting.

    The Ball Blue Book has a recipe for Strawberry Lemon Marmalade that is insanely delicious. The lemon adds so much spark to the flavor of the strawberries. The recipe adds lemon juice and thinly sliced, simmered lemon peel to a regular jam recipe. I use more peel than specified. Make a lot and you will be set for holiday gifts.
