I'm not sure if any of this has made it out to Chicago but if you see it, BUY IT!. It is the best mass production ice cream I have ever had. It is far less sweet than typical Ben and Jerry's and the crust is not in big chunks but fully mixed in each bite. Simply amazing. I have 6 pints in my freezer right now just in case they don't pick it up full time...

Unfortunately, that strategy doesn't work for me. 6 pints of good ice cream in my freezer would last the same length of time as 1 pint.

They used to have apple pie a la mode. It was the best ice cream ever. The crust & apples were delicious. It was totally an apple pie a la mode pop-- not to be confused w/ the frozen Old Fashioned Donut Apple Fritter pop.

The recipe for the Apple Pie ice cream is out there, somewhere. I used to have a copy on a post card, tucked into my Ben and Jerry's ice cream cookbook, but it fell out and I am not sure where it is right now. It was basically a cream base with a chopped up piece of pie in it.

Ciao Bella's Key Lime is also very good. They also incorporate the graham cracker crumbs throughout for a nice textural effect.

I have found it on and off at Stop & Shop in Unionville. Actually, after writing my post in the Best Thing You have Eaten (Lately) thread I hopped in my car and drove over there... I timed it just right as they had just received their allotment of 8 pints... I bought them all...

I guess I won't be posting to tell you where I find some. . .

I found it at the Dominicks on Nagle & Devon. You can also get it at their scoop shops, and there's one in Evanston. www.benjerry.com

    Stagger,

FYI - I just bought a pint this weekend at the Super Walmart (don't get me started on how much I hate this place, but...) in Waterford, CT. They had at least 20-30 pints. Btw, The movie "Gone in 60 Seconds" should not have been about cars.

This ice cream is really hard to find. I have not seen it at the following: Dominick's, Jewel, Caputo & Sons, Fresh Market, nor the Ben & Jerry's scoop store in Palatine. I think that I might have to make key lime pie ice cream. Does anyone have a good recipe?

I love key lime pie, so I'm anxious to try B&J's version. But I did recently try Ciao Bella's Key Lime Graham Cracker Gelato, which was fantastic. I found it at Treasure Island on Broadway.

Ciao Bella is at the Dominick's on Nagle & Devon (on sale now, I believe) but the Key Lime B&J is no longer! The "limited edition" flavor there is now Ginger Snap. I hope the Key Lime wasn't that limited! According to a tweet on the website, some 7Elevens have it.

The Ciao Bella Key Lime won a food industry award last month so I suspect they'll be keeping it around (I bought a couple of pints about 2 weeks ago at Dominicks).

After reading this post, I just picked up a pint of the B&J Key Lime Pie today at the newly-reopened Dominick's on Ridge and Pratt in Rogers Park. It and all other B&J pints were $3.50 each.

    Verdict: delicious.

I called Ben & Jerry since Key Lime Pie was not in their flavor locator tool which is in the Contact Us link. (see http://www.benjerry.com/flavors/flavor-locator/). They said that the flavor is made in limited quantities, but is widely distributed. It won't be added to the flavor locator tool. They said that you should be able to find it at large grocery stores.

The Dominick's in Lake Zurich (Rt. 22 and Rand Road) is finally stocking this flavor. When I went through the checkout line, the checker picked up the ice cream, commented that she has never seen the flavor and started reading the ingredients. She found it interesting that the ice cream contained pie crust. We were both talking about how much we love key lime pie.

The Dominick's on Chicago & Damen does not have it. Neither do the 7-11's on Wacker & Wabash or Dearborn & Lake. (Getting desperate; love key lime ice cream . . . )

Just finished my pint over the course of a week and a half, savoring it.

I'd like a little more lime (that's my complaint for most key lime pies too), but the cream flavor is fantastic, and the hint of salt in the crust bits really wakes everything up.
I'd gotten it at the "new" Walmart in Mt Prospect, but I think it was the last one there. I haven't seen it anywhere else since.
