I am on the lookout for extra wide tin foil for use with the WSM water pan. I have checked a few grocery and hardware stores with no luck. Any specific places you would suggest?

    Thanks.

Target has Reynolds Wrap extra-wide (at least the one on Touhy in Niles does).

I am also ISO extra wide tin foil. I bought some (much wider than usual) Safeway heavy duty foil at Dominick's last week but it wasn't wide enough to cover the whole WSM water pan. I think I remember reading that they increased the size of the water pan within the last couple years (mine is brand new). Are you guys referring to the extremely wide tin foil that is packaged for grocery stores? Any other place to get it that doesn't require a membership?

I guess I'll try Target for now, but any help would be appreciated.

I've only ever seen HD foil in 12 and 18 inch widths at W'man's, Sam's, etc.
I don't use water in my 22.5 WSM, electing to use a clay dish instead. I do, however, wrap the pan (and said dish) in HD foil by laying two 36 inch lengths in a big X (for both inside and outside) to incase the entire bowl to make for easy cleanup. Despite the effort, grease/drippings still get thru the foil, probably because of pinholes caused by the crinkled foil. Still, it's easier to clean the wrapped pan than if it were unfoiled. I'd expect the same problem if water were used in a foiled pan.

You can get the 18" wide from Amazon also. And I haven't seen any wider than 18". Possibly restaurant supply stores?

I stopped using foil on my water pan. I didn't find that the foil made clean up any easier. Some people claim that the foil is really there to protect the bottom of the pan. I haven't noticed any degradation in the bottom since I stopped using foil.

Last year bought 24" heavy duty foil from some online supply house--quite pricey--iirc it was close to a hundred bucks for the big roll--but it gets used sparingly---I just Googled it to find a supply house---there is also an xtra heavy duty foil available too that is even more expensive!

    Locally, try:

    Krasny & Co
    2829 N Clybourn Ave
(between Damen Ave & Diversey Pky

It should be a good bit cheaper than on-line sources.

I've never used foil on the bottom of a WSM waterpan, see no need. Foil, from my perspective, is only there to facilitate cleanup. With the new larger WSM waterpans one must be very careful to avoid rips, messy seams or pinpoint holes. Water that gets under the foil will percolate up under the foil and drip on the coals kicking up ash and soot.

I might start mfg extra wide foil. What width would be ideal for your purpose 28" or 30"? Would you buy it in a roll with out a cutter and cut yourself or does it need a box and cutter. There is a cost associated with everything. Also what length (s) would you like to see. I was thinking 25, 50, and 100. Probably would only make two sizes depending on cost. Additionally does it need to be heavy duty .011 or extra heavy duty .015? Let me know your thoughts and I will keep you posted.

28" would be fine by me. But I'd sure like a box and cutter.

    Nice idea!
