    Hi all,

It's getting close to harvest time and I got thinking...has anyone got a source for olio nuovo (fresh harvested olive oil)? I absolutely fell in love with the flavors of last year. I just can't see myself going into the new year without a bottle.

Below are links to the two sources I used

    CasaDeCase Olio Nuovo

    TerraSavia California Olio Nuovo

I had a really hard time finding someone that supplied the olive oil in small quantities to residential customers. I'd like to get a few sources in different regions from Italy, Spain, Greece, California, etc. If you've got ANY information that may help I'd appreciate it. Feel free to post here or send me a private message.

    thanks!

If you find something, I'd love to buy in. But I can't do a whole lot of quantity. Self, friends, and family probably only add up to a few litres. Still, if anything materializes, do let us know.

City Olive in Edgewater has an upcoming event note:

Arriving Mid–December – Select new 2009 Harvest oils from Italy and Spain! The beautiful red bottle from Castillo de Canena, First Day of Harvest arrives from Spain mid December just in time for the holidays! Call ahead to reserve your bottle. Limited quantities.

I'm sure you can call and see if they have any other options.

Like for instance, 2nd mortgage and home loan mod. options, (from the pricing I've seen there.)

I visited The Olive Tap in Long Grove today and inquired about the coming availability of fresh harvest olive oil. The shop keeper had not heard of it and made a phone call.

The response was that the harvest in Italy and Spain is in December and arrival is expected +/- 60 days thereafter, or sometime in Feb.

I have no experience in fresh harvest OO and question the reliability of the information I received, especially as it contrasts the information given up thread.

Hence, the only benefit to the current post is the suggestion that The Olive Tap, which is a well established retailer of quality oils, spices and specialty food items, might be a possible source. It would be best if those interested contact the owner directly.

In addition to the Long Grove location, they have a store in Downers Grove and one in Medina, OH, information for which is presented on their website.

Please post if, after speaking with them, you receive more credible information than did I.

    Hi all,

I haven't been looking for places that sell large quantities of oil. I've found some, but I just don't have the kind of money to spend on oil. This may be part of what's made my quest for Olio Nuovo so difficult. The two links that I listed above both sell Olio Nuovo in small quantities.

CasaDeCasa isn't taken orders yet, but should be any day now. Terra Savia, in California, you need to contact them by phone to place an order. These are the only places I know of, so far, where you could place a small order.

I've stopped in two different Olive Tap locations and both places looked at me like I was talking a different language. Then again...not many places seem to have heard of new Olive oil. I've never been to City Olive and I'll certainly look it up next time I'm up north (I just hope the prices aren't too high), maybe I'll go up for a tasting.

I'll keep looking and post back if I hear more.

    thanks,
    dan

You may want to try OLD TOWN OIL at 1520 N. Wells St. Tel 312-787-9595
They have a decent selection of good quality bulk extra-virgin oils from several countries usually quite fresh. You can taste them in the store.

But my favorite place is by far CITY OLIVE at 5408 N. Clark St. Tel: 773-878-5408
The owner of this beautiful store Ms. Rose goes to Europe every year to make her selection of fine bottles from Italy, Greece, Spain, France and North Africa and she will be able to provide you with good and knowledgeable advice. If you want to try something different try French olive oil. They are a bit more expensive but worth the trip.
You can learn more about them on my blog ( French Virtual cafe). City Olive ha a nice selection of them and you can taste them there.

    Good luck

Well, I made it to City Olive the other day. I've gotta say...what a nice place! They've got a real nice selection of good olive oils from many regions. They've got a knowledgeable staff and will spend all the time you need to help you understand olive oils better than when you walked in.

    Thanks for the suggestion!

By the way...CasadeCase is taking orders for their Olio Nuovo.

    Hi all,

Well, I'm not sure if anyone has ordered/bought any Olio Nuovo this year or not. But If you haven't...get yourself a bottle. I know that both links I provided earlier have been taking orders for this season for a while now. I didn't buy from either of these sources this year...but I wouldn't hesitate.

This year I'm going to get a few bottles from CityOlive. I really don't think their prices are too far out of line...especially when you factor in the cost of shipping the other orders. I plan to get a couple varieties from Italy, Spain and France. I can't wait!

    enjoy the olio nuovo!

I've finished a couple and have two more on hand; one was from a private source, the other three from well-known producers in California. If and when I get time and inspiration, I'll post on them -- I've already posted on a couple of dishes I've made using them.

    Hi Antonius :)

I'd love to hear your comments. After finally having some new oil, for the first time, last harvest I don't think I could go without ordering some. Although I could see how it will go too soon, no matter the quantities. Currently I'm waiting on some Castillo de Canena, First Day of Harvest 2009 (this harvest) before I get my Olio Nuovo for this year. I plan on getting a couple bottles from Spain, a couple from Italy and some from France. I'll see if they have any fresh harvest from Greece or any other places as well. I can't wait!
