Unlikely as it may seem, I have found a source for these things, a tiny but growing dairy, located off two very busy roads, currently with 11 cows and growing.

They are looking for more customers. I am told it is all perfectly legal, and I believe it is, but I also prefer to pass the information along privately. PM me if you would look more info, including contact information.

My understanding is that, in Illinois, raw milk can be purchased directly from a farm, but DO NOT take my word for it only!

Yeah, that is my understanding as well. But I am not sure if putting the name and contact info here would constitute "advertising" - probably not, but better safe than sorry. In some states I think there also is the pretense that such sales are not "for human consumption," and the farmer needs to clearly state that, even if everyone knows it is almost all being consumed that way.

Personally, I like the flavor of grass fed milk, but I do not really consume whole milk and I do not think it makes that much difference when cooking.

The yogurt and fresh cheese are a different story. Great paneer.

I hope they are well insured and make customers sign waivers of liability.

No way, but I suppose that if one really wanted to sue someone like this, you could end up with the cows and the enjoyment of having put them out of business. The most amusing thing about this was discovering this little dairy hidden at the end of a path behind a bunch of subdivisions, sort of a little land that time forgot.
