I'm planning on roasting a pork shoulder next Saturday and want to try a method that calls for injecting an apple juice brine as opposed to simply submerging the meat in the brine. I know I could order one online but since I'm short on time (not sure if it would be delivered by next weekend), I was wondering if there is somewhere nearby that I might be able to find a meat syringe. I'm guessing they would have them at a store like Cabelas, but I was hoping to not have to drive all the way out to Hammond (I live on the northside). Any idea of any of the butcher shops (Paulina, Gepperths, Peoria, etc) might have them?

i bought one at northwestern cutlery on Lake St. I think I've also seen them at Strack and Van Til. They're popular this time of year for people injecting turkeys, so they should be easy to find.

They're not that hard to find. In the city, any Sur La Table type place for kitchen stuff should have them. In the burbs, go to a Cabela's or Bass Pro Shop or any place with a good barbecue/sausagemaking section. "Cajun injector" seems to be the name they mostly go by, I don't know why.

The cajun injector signature series is sure nice. You can get it at stores like Gander Mountain and Bass Pro. I'm not sure of places in the city...I think Sur La Table has the plastic ones instead, which still aren't bad...just not Bad A$#!

These are getting to be pretty ubiquitous. Pretty much any place that sells a turkey fryer will have them, including Home Depot, Menards, Wal-Mart. My wife bought a bottled marinade at Jewel last year that had an injector shrink-wrapped alongside the bottle.

Thanks for all the responses, I didn't realize how prevalent they were. I stopped by Menards on Saturday (Clybourn location) and did not see an injector in the grilling section up front. I was sort of in a hurry so I didn't bother to ask anyone. I did call Northwestern Cutlery and they said they have 2 models - one stainless steel and one plastic, both from a brand called Lem. I think the steel one was $25-30. I couldn't make it there on Saturday so I broke down and ordered one online (I wanted a slightly more well-made one than I would get at Jewel, etc.). Anyway, just thought I'd bring this thread to a close - thanks for the responses.

I saw a few different models at Bed, Bath and Beyond on Saturday afternoon. With a 20% coupon (which they mail me on a weekly basis I think) they are about 10.00.
