I finally made it over to the new location on Wells Street.

It's lovely, warm, and inviting. Plus the macaroons are lovely. I had a mango-passion fruit macaroon that tasted shockingly of both fruits complete with the signature seeds of passion fruit.

The staff was helpful and offered me bites of product without me even asking. That was a very pleasant surprise.

I'm so glad to have this treasure in my neighborhood.

Do they have the rainbow cookies that their other location does?

    Hi,

Everything is baked at the Lawrence Avenue location and distributed. If Rainbow cookies are not there, it can be easily arranged.

It was such a delightful surprise to see Dobra on 190N. last night!
You looked fantastic and made for fantastic spokesperson for the French Market!

Just thought Dobra deserved her own thread :) I have had Delightful Pastries lemon bars and pecan bars before from the Whole Foods in Evanston and tried some of their pastries at the Chicago French Market as well. I had the pleasure of meeting Dobra last week, and the even greater pleasure of ordering a cake from her for a residential college event.

Here was our delicious chocolate sponge cake with raspberry mousse and buttercream!

To be sure, there are things to like about Delightful Pastries. But as they expand both their reach and their product offerings, I find that there are also a growing number of things to dislike. I suspect that they added a black and white cookie to the Wells St menu to accommodate the fair number of NY transplants in that area, but it's the poorest rendition I've ever had of that cookie, with a crisp, dry texture that's the antithesis of what it's supposed to be. Macarons are about on par with the black and whites. Perhaps most disturbing to me, the attention DP has received seems to have given them license to dramatically increase prices. Selling mediocre, wrapped-in-plastic donuts for 2-3 bucks a piece is pretty nutty. On the list of Chicago bakeries to recommend, DP has moved way down for me.

As someone who has griped about the Wells location's paczki pricing, I agree. I will say that I still visit the W. Lawrence location fairly regularly and the paczki are still plentiful, fresh (not wrapped), delicious, and cheap. I hate to caveat recommending a place by saying "go to this location, not that one" but in the case of Delightful, this appears to be the case.

Same deal with Zaleski and Horvath - if you want the fantabulous peanut butter cookies or the black and white cookies (which taste great to me, but I do not have a personal regional history with them), hit 47th street. Plastic-wrapped and often stale at 57th.

What should catch my eye on HuffPo than Dobra's spiked donuts, garnering some national attention.

Just the reminder I needed to mention that, however cleverly inserted into a dim sum experience, the caramel macaron I had from the Delightful Pastries kitchen was the clear winner of three I happened to have had in rapid succession: Sugar Fixe, Bonjour Bakery, and then DP. The last was the least sweet and the most smoky and pleasant.

Hasn't so-called "boozy custard" been a standard pazcki filling forever? Glad to see wider acceptance of booze in everyday snacks and desserts. If someone would just bring the Zephyr back with its boozy ice cream treats.

Dobra and Delightful Pastries' "drunken donuts," as ABC News 7 called them, were also featured on a segment with Frank Mathie on the 11/14/12 afternoon news.

And I saw this on the front page of the CNN website (looks like it's the same video, though)! Go, Dobra!

Well, I asked a friend what i could do for her last week when her 90+ year old mum died. She asked for a sweet tray. I had 0 time to bake. I called Delightful Pastries and Dobra & her elves put together a couple of beautiful trays***of bar bites.

It was the only thing my friend would eat at the wake!

    Thanks Dobra for coming through!

**it would have been tacky to take pics at the funeral home so just take my word for it.

Delightful Pastries has closed their location at 1210 N. Wells St. It’s one fewer paczki destination in Old Town, but folks can still go to Jefferson Park for their fill.

And they're still at the French Market. I don't know why Eater didn't mention that location, since it's a lot closer to the Old Town location that closed.
