I want to try frog legs but would like to try to fix them at home. Does any one know where I might be able to buy some here in Chicago? I found one fancy site but they wanted one to buy 30 pounds at $300   That is way outta my budget. Thanks for any help :)

Most Asian markets will have them fresh (if not live) and most ethnic markets have them frozen. What part of town are you in?

I bet if you go to Chinatown they would be glad to wack off the legs of some of the little hoppers that they have in their cases. :D

Maybe you don't mean this to come out the way it did. I can only hope so.

    Hi,

Most of the frog legs served in our restaurants come from Asia. It seemed from my quick review, most were coming from Thailand. I would certainly call Thai shops.

I believe I have seen them frozen at H-Mart, though I have no recollection of the price.

    Regards,

Ummmm...did I say something wrong? Chinatown grocery personnel prepping live frogs down to their legs. That's all I meant! :D

When you nicknamed them "hoppers" before describing the "hacking off" of their legs, I read into it a certain sadistic glee. The big smiley face served to reinforce what was perhaps an erroneous interpretation of your post.

Super H Mart in Niles has them and they are generally under $5/lb.

Now I've got an image in my head of Kenny standing in a pasture with all the bulls looking nervously around and going "meow"

I've bought them frozen (individually wrapped) from Rubino's Seafood at Halsted and Lake. It was about a 5 pound box for around $30. Very good deal in my opinion. Substituted them for wings in buffalo sauce!

I always get my frog legs from Valli Produce in Arlington Heights. They usually run between $5-6 per pound. I picked up six pair yesterday for $6 a pound. I love them lightly dusted with flour and sauteed in garlic butter and white wine. Delicious!!!

Is it possible to buy these little buggers boneless?

I've never seen them available boneless. When I've purchased them, they've always been frozen and bone in.

I saw them at the butcher counter at Pete's Fresh Market (Cermak & Western location) this morning. ~6/lbs I think.
