I came across a package of precut fol wrappers for bite sized candies and thought it would make my candies look festive instead of just using plain old wax paper. SO I wrapped each caramel in the little wax squares that came with the foils and then put the pretty gold foil over that.

Except the little wax squares were not wax squares at all, they were just papers separating the sheets of foil. They are sticking horribly to my caramels and I think I'm screwed at least for giving that batch. I even put them in the fridge to see if they'd peel off better when cold, but no luck.

I'd like to try to salvage the not insignificant amount of caramel that now has paper stick to it. ANY suggestions, ideas, I'm willing to try.

    Thank you.

Based on my experience, the foil wrappers are no picnic either-- after many bad experiences, on a tip from my gal Martha, the only caramel wrappers I use are the twisting wax paper from Candyland Crafts:

Sounds like you normally use something similar. I gave all my foil wrappers to my 1st grader for craft projects.

As for salvage, you could make caramel sauce by adding some cream to the sticky caramels and heating it. You could either try to scrape the caramels off the paper before adding them to the cream, or try heating cream with the papers and caramel. The latter approach is risky, as the paper might disintegrate. With the time you invest, you might just be able to make a fresh batch of caramel-- luckily the ingredients are not so expensive!

Good luck and do report back! That reminds me, I need to get a batch of sea salt caramels going for teacher gifts-- holiday break is coming FAST!!

Did you try freezing them too?

The other thing I would do is don some gloves, scrape as much out of the wrappers as you can into a greased pan, smoosh it all into a nice flat layer, then cut them and rewrap.

    Good luck!
