My wife was addicted to Maurice Lenell's chocolate chip cookies for several decades.
But since the company changed ownership and manufacturing locations she does not like them anymore and is desperately looking for a decent substitute.
She tried many commercial and less industrial brands without any success.
Any suggestion of such similar type of good or better chocolate chip cookies which may be available in the Chicago area will be welcome

I always found Lenell cookies to be uniformly "sugar flavored." For locally produced chocolate chip we've always been big fans of Matt's. Not at all the similar to Lenell, but in my book that's a good thing.

While I realize that people can indeed develop a taste for just about anything, I am truly surprised to hear that, of all the chocolate chip cookies in the world, a person could develop a hankering for the Maurice Lenell brand. As Charles Barkley would put it, those things were TURR-ible. Even as a child, I and my cookie-loving peer group regarded them as the Cookie of Last Resort.

Alternatives? I suppose Chips Ahoy. Same industrial-cookie category, but a step up.

Yes they were the cookie of the very last resort. I think they put cashews in them. a no no in my book. the best were the butterscotch stars, the pinwheels, and the star ones with the cherry in the middle. I think matts would be something to check out or what about pepperidge farms? Also at one time I used to buy Heinnemans chocolate chip cookies. Maybe they still carry them at Jewel.
