I work in the West Loop and I'm always on the lookout for new places to eat lunch. I haven't found a sushi place that I really really like yet, so I was excited to see one in the new Mariano's in Greektown. But I was miffed when I saw that every to-go carton of sushi says "sustainable seafood." A lot of the species featured are standard, but certainly not sustainable that I know of:

Unagi for example, is listed as "avoid" on the seafood watch website. It's already such a chore to keep track of what seafood is sustainable, that it certainly doesn't help when stores muddy the water by claiming things are "sustainable."

Have you raised this issue with them? I would - it's highly deceptive and irresponsible . . . and yet at the same time, I'm not the least bit surprised.

There are sustainable "unagi" sources available:

Don't know enough about the business to suggest that's the case here but where there's demand, there's a work-around.
