This is such a simple question I feel kind of dumb asking it - but if you're poaching just the yolk of an egg how long should you cook it? I'm doing it just to drop on top of a starch (think frites w/eggs type thing) for a sauce, but I've never poached the yolk by itself and am looking for a timing range to start with so I don't end up wasting eggs needlessly. Is it just the same timing as poaching a whole egg?
It is VERY important to be smart when you're doing something stupid

I have poached just the yolks for sauces. It takes 40-50 seconds. I get the water to shimmer and turn it off, slide the yolk in to the water, in less than a min. it is done and creamy. Remove with a slotted spoon and enjoy.
