Thanksgivukkah (by me, Nathanskkah) is coming!

This year, due to the peculiarities of the Jewish calendar, the first day of Hanukkah falls on November 28, 2013—Thanksgiving—a once in 70,000-years event. My son Nathaniel’s 21st birthday also happens to be the day before, so my family will be celebrating three special days in one, which my daughter is calling Nathanskkah.

We have been trying to think how to incorporate a little Hanukkah in our Thanksgiving, I mean, Nathanskkah, but greater minds than mine have been hard at work on this. The Forward gives you a run-down of the available schlock one can buy for Thanksgivukkah, and links to Buzzfeed’s suggested menu for this unique holiday. I had already thought of latkes with cranberry sauce, but some of their other dishes, such as Brussels sprouts with pastrami and pickled onion, sound pretty good. I’m not so sure about Manischewitz-brined turkey, however.

Anyone planning something special on the table for your Thanksgivukkah?

Yup, if you don't want to make it yourself, you can buy one here.

Thanksgivukkah sounds like something from an Adam Sandler song.

Turchisket? (Turkey stuffed with chicken stuffed with brisket?) Turkey stuffed with noodle kugel? Sweet potato latkes?

I asked my mom if she was going to have turkey and potato pancakes and she said no way. I think my parents would feel like they've been swindled in having two holidays at once and the family will only visit them one day instead of two, so no way would they combine them! It's ok with me, it's too weird having them at the same time.

When I saw this term (not the video) I was thinking a roast turkey with seven extra drumsticks.

    That would be awesome.
The menorah is pretty cute, though.
