lemon curd in a cake?

I am making my sister a birthday cake that will need to be frozen & transported to Northern Michigan. I usually make a dark chocolate cake, but am thinking of switching up to something with lemon curd (her fave) between the layers. Any ideas for something other than white or lemon cake with the lemon curd? Sadly, we have to rule out coconut and banana...
