I've been reading Sean Brock's "Heritage" and he waxes poetic about Carolina Gold Rice.
Anson Mills and Carolina Plantation Rice ship (and sell through Amazon), but the shipping is about the cost of the goods.

If anyone has seen it around, please let me know.

I am pretty sure that I saw it yesterday at Publican Quality Meats. Definitely call first.

Even in Charleston it's pricey stuff and I couldn't find it in either of the two groceries I stopped in. After pricing it at all the various tourist shops, I ended up getting them at a shop across from the market. I think they were around $12/bag but that was anywhere from $3-8 less than other places selling it. While good, I can't say its worth it.

Online pirces are $6/12oz (Anson Mills, with a 4-bag minimum with $9 shipping), $9/2lbs (Carolina Plantation, with $9 shipping).
Amazon prices are substantially similar, with the shipping costs built into the base price or separate (no benefit for my Prime membership).

As noted previously, PQM seems like the go-to; I can't imagine anyone else who would stock it. I went all-in about a year ago and got an assortment of Anson Mills offerings - Charleston Gold, Carolina Gold, Farro, etc. I never regretted it. Indeed, I'm about out of bags, and it's definitely time I reordered.

We're a long way from new years day, but take my word for it: every day's a good day for hoppin' john!

I bought the stuff when I was in Charleston. Yes, it had it's own characteristics, but I didn't think it was all that special.
