"I'm going to try the torshi recipe soon and plan on using amchoor combined with the alternate spice mix suggested in the recipe. Or, maybe I'll just use garam masala with a little amchoor and call it a day. OR...................."
I used Roni's Hazmutzin recipe linked to above. In the recipe she says that she sometimes uses a mixture of mustard seed, chili powder, paprika and cumin instead of amchoor. While I was looking through our spices to put some of this alternate mixture together, I noticed we had some Baharat from the Spice House.
I'm sure it was a misuse of this spice mixture, but I decided to give this a try instead of heading out to pick up some amchoor. I also threw in some extra chili powder. I liked the way it came out. It was both a bit sweeter and a bit spicier than Larsa's version. I guess it will get better with some additional time.
